The problem we saw
Clinical reasoning — the ability to take a history, interpret findings, form a differential, investigate wisely, and treat confidently — is the single most important skill in medicine. Yet training it is remarkably hard. Students get few real patient encounters, feedback is inconsistent, and mistakes carry real consequences.
In African universities, the gap is even wider. One lecturer might teach 300 students. Simulations are rare. Bedside exposure is limited. And the gap between textbook knowledge and real-world decision-making is large enough to cost lives.
What we built
Doctrios is a clinical reasoning simulator — not a quiz app, not a flashcard deck. Every case is driven by a live physiology engine that reacts to your choices in real time. Order the wrong test, the result comes back and the clock moves. Miss a critical sign, the ward state worsens. Choose the optimal treatment, the patient stabilizes. Every decision is graded against the ideal pathway — transparently.
The platform runs on any device, installs in seconds, and is free to start. We designed it deliberately for the realities of African medical education: low-bandwidth, mobile-first, and accessible to students from Nairobi to Kabianga.
